ST. CLOUD -- A 17-year-old St. Cloud boy has been formally sentenced in a stabbing which killed a man in June.

Muhiyadin Mohammed Hassan had earlier pleaded guilty to second degree unintentional murder in the death of 20-year-old Davee Devose.

A Stearns County judge has sentenced Hassan to 12 1/2 years in prison, but stayed the sentence to allow Hassan to complete a juvenile residential program in Red Wing. He'll remain on juvenile probation until he turns 21 years old.

The Stearns County Attorney's office says it's believed Hassan is not a U.S. Citizen and will likely be deported.

According to court records Hassan and three others were walking by a house at the intersection of 6th Avenue South and 5th Street South in the early hours of June 29th when an argument broke out between Devose and the group. The argument escalated into a fight. That's when police say Devose was stabbed once in the chest with a knife.

Paramedics were unable to revive Devose and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hassan was claiming self defense in the case.
