Gov. Mark Dayton has ordered a vote among home-based child care providers about whether they should unionize. His executive order issued Tuesday sets an election for December.
The prospect of unionizing has divided in-home child care providers in Minnesota. The care givers filled a Senate hearing room Thursday night where two committees held a joint hearing on the issue.
Daycare providers in the St. Cloud area are receiving an e-mail from Child Care Choices to alert them about union organizers door-knocking. Executive Director Renee Olson says it was believed that her agency was involved with the solicitors but she says they are not and, in fact, are neutral on union matters.
