A northern Minnesota city council member is dreaming big. Proctor councilman Travis White wants to attract an NFL franchise to the Twin Ports area. White introduced two resolutions during last (Monday) night's Proctor city council meeting, one asked for city support for the idea and the other is for city support for building an outdoor stadium in the region.
The Minnesota Wild are in Chicago tonight (Friday) for game 1 of their second round playoff series with the Blackhawks. Tonight's game starts at 8:30 p.m. Game 2 is on Sunday at 2:00 p.m., also in Chicago.
St. Cloud native Nate Schmidt made his National Hockey League debut this past Saturday. Schmidt is a member of the Washington Capitals. He had been assigned to their minor league team the Hershey Bears, but after just one game with that team, he got the news last Friday that he was being called up to the Capitals.
Hockey fans - and businesses that cater to those fans - are rejoicing, now that a tentative agreement has been reached to end the 113-day player lockout. They're planning on a 48-50 game season to start in about a week.
