October 12, 2012 Viking defensive end Everson Griffen missed practice Thursday after he was informed of the sudden death of his mother. Coach Leslie Fraizer said Thursday that police arrived at the team's headquarters on Wednesday to inform Griffen of the news. The details of Griffen's mother's death were not immediately known. Sabrina Scott has been visiting her son in Eden Prairie when she suddenly died Wednesday.
October 11, 2012 The Vikings got some good news on receiver Jerome Simpson Wednesday and he's now expected to play at Washington Sunday. Simpson doesn't need surgery for the back problem that caused weakness and numbness in his lower left leg. He played sparingly against Tennessee because of the injury on Sunday. Viking head coach Leslie Frazier says "all indications are" that Simpson will be fine to face Washington Sunday.
October 8, 2012 Viking head coach Leslie Frazier spoke to the media today and expressed concern over Jerome Simpson's pregame injury to his ankle and that they will do a MRI today to determine the severity of it. He suggested that the injury may have effected his back and legs. Simpson played sparingly Sunday against Tennessee and didn't record a catch.
October 8, 2012 The Vikings improved to 4-1 after a 30-7 win at home against the Tennessee Titans Sunday afternoon. Percy Harvin ran for a touchdown in the first half and had 8 catches for 108 yards including a 2nd half touchdown catch. Adrian Peterson ran for 88 yards on 17 carries and had 3 catches for 15 yards. Christian Ponder threw for 258 yards and 2 touchdowns with 2 interceptions. The 2 interceptions for Ponder are his first 2 of the season.
October 4, 2012 Vikings defensive end Jared Allen didn't practice Wednesday due to a groin injury but the Viking believe Allen can play Sunday against Tennessee. Others that didn't practice include; receiver Michael Jenkins (ribs), safety Mistral Raymond (ankle) and safety Andrew Sendejo (ankle). The following were limited in practice; linebacker Erin Henderson (concussion), guard Charlie Johnson (back), quarterback Christian Ponder (knee), cornerback Marcus Sherels (quad) and cornerback Antoine Winfield (knee).
October 1, 2012 The Vikings won 20-13 at Detroit Sunday to improve to 3-1 on the season. Percy Harvin started the game with a 105-yard kickoff return touchdown and Marcus Sherels returned a punt 77-yards for a touchdown in the 3rd quarter. Blair Walsh made 2 of 3 field goals and Adrian Peterson ran for 102 yards on 21 carries for the Vikings. Christian Ponder was 16-26 for 111 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. Jerome Simpson in his first game this season had 4 catches for 50 yards.
September 24, 2012 Replacement referree Ken Roan worked the Vikings/49ers game in Minnesota Sunday and admitted he mistakenly awarded 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh two challenges after the coach had called his last timeout on Sunday. The Vikings were trying to run out the clock when Toby Gerhart fumbled on 3rd down. The 49ers used their final timeout and then were awarded a challenge and given their timeout back.
September 23, 2012 The Vikings improved to 2-1 Sunday with a stunning 24-13 win at home against the previously San Francisco 49ers. Minnesota jumped out to a 17-3 haltime lead and never trailed. Christian Ponder threw for 198 yards and 2 touchdowns and had a 23-yard touchdown run for the Vikings. Adrian Peterson ran for 86 yards on 25 carries and had 2 catches for 21 yards.
September 20, 2012 Former Viking receiver Randy Moss returns to Minnesota when the San Francisco 49ers play the Vikings at Mall of America Field Sunday at noon, pregame on WJON at 11am. Moss has been used sparingly by the 49ers this season appearing in just 16 offensive plays Sunday night against Detroit. He has just 5 catches for 61 yards and 1 touchdown this season. He caught just 1 pass for 14 yards against Detroit Sunday night.
