Minnesota’s Saul Smith Will Keep Job; Return Soon

Minnesota assistant coach Saul Smith will keep his job and return to the team next month after a drunken-driving arrest that put him on unpaid leave for the last five days. Athletic director Norwood Teague said Smith returned to the payroll on Friday but will remain on administrative leave until Nov. 13.

University of Minnesota officials say the first game with alcohol sales at TCF Bank Stadium went smoothly. Schools spokesman Chuck Tombarge says extra security staff effectively isolated the area where alcohol was sold Saturday.

U of M Readies for Beer Sales at Stadium

Fans will be able to drink beer and wine at Minnesota's first home football game of the year at TCF Bank Stadium this weekend. Saturday's Gophers game against New Hampshire will mark the first time alcohol will be sold at an athletic event on the University of Minnesota campus.

Gophers’ Smith Had Prostate Cancer

Gopher head men's basketball coach Tubby Smith says he had prostate cancer but no longer has the disease. Through a statement from the University of Minnesota Smith says he had surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester to remove the cancer last month.
