Cathedral’s Karn Gets Great Honor
Longtime Cathedral head baseball coach Bob Karn has been selected for induction into the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. The Hall honors service to amateur baseball in Minnesota. Bob's induction has probably been delayed because he is the curator of the Hall of Fame in St. Cloud and would never allow himself to be nominated.
Cathedral Baseball Falls In Title Game
The Cathedral baseball team lost 5-0 to Holy Family Monday afternoon at Target Field in the Class AA state championship game. Kasey Ralston threw the complete-game 2-hit shutout with 7 strikeouts to get the win for Holy Family. Eric Pelant allowed 3 hits and 3 earned runs in 3 1/3 innings to take the loss for the Crusaders. Bo Schmitz and Tommy McMorrow each had 1 hit for Cathedral.
Cathedral Baseball Looks To Repeat Today
The Cathedral baseball team is playing Monday in the Class AA State championship game for a 2nd straight year. The Crusaders won the state title at Target Field in 2011 and can successfully defend their state title with a win today over Holy Family Catholic at 3pm at Target Field, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan at 2:55. Cathedral Baseball Advances to State Title Game
Cathedral scored 4 runs in the top of the 9th inning to beat Proctor 9-8 in 9 innings in the Class 2A state tournament semifinals at Dick Putz Field Friday afternoon. Proctor scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning but couldn't pull out the win. Brian Minks had 3 hits and 2 RBIs and Mike Kerber had 2 hits and 3 runs scored for the Crusaders. Eric Pelant threw the final 1 2/3 innings to get the win.
Cathedral Baseball Advances to State Semifinals
The Cathedral baseball team defeated Delano 5-0 Thursday night to advance to the Class AA state tournament semifinals against Proctor today at 2:30, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan at 2:25. The Crusaders scored all 5 of their runs in the 2nd inning. Eric Pelant threw a complete-game 4-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts to get the win for the Crusaders. Mike Kerber and Matt Dodge each had 2 hits for the Crusaders and Jeff Facshing had 2 RBIs.
State Quarters In St. Cloud Delayed Due to Weather
The Class AA state quarterfinal baseball games scheduled for today in St. Cloud have been postponed until later today due to severe storms and rain. The first game featuring Holy Family and Cannon Falls is now scheduled for 3pm at Putz Field. Roseau and Fairmont at scheduled at Putz Field at 5:30 and Proctor and Minneapolis Washburn is scheduled for 8pm at Faber Field. Cathedral is scheduled to play against Delano at Putz Field at 8pm tonight.
Cathedral Baseball Tops Albany and Heads Back to State
The Cathedral baseball team defeated Albany twice Thursday night at Dick Putz Field. The Crusaders won 7-1 in game 1 before downing Albany 7-4 in 8 innings in game 2. Jeff Fasching threw 4 1/3 innings with 1 hit allowed to get the win in game 1. Drew Peschel singled in the game-winning run in the 8th inning for the Crusaders in game 2. Albany led 4-0 in game 2 before Cathedral came back.
