Becker city leaders are still working hard on bringing a Google Data Center to their community, however, it may come down to state lawmakers for the $600 million project to become a reality.
If the city of Becker is going to move forward with a plan to expand their business park they are going to have to do it without help from the state, at least for now.
Another step forward in the plan to bring Google to central Minnesota. The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission Tuesday approved Xcel Energy's request to provide wind energy to the planned large data center.
The plan for a major expansion of Becker's Business Park is an expensive one. The business park currently has about 500 acres and the city would like to add another 1,500 acres that would be phased in over several years.
It is still far from a done deal but the plan to attract tech giant Google to central Minnesota took another step forward Tuesday night. The Becker City Council unanimously approved Google's 20-year tax abatement request.
