CLEAR LAKE -- Authorities are looking for the driver of a car that was caught at the scene of a burglary and led a sheriff's deputy on a high speed chase Wednesday.

Sherburne County Sheriff's officials say the deputy responded to a burglary alarm in Clear Lake Township at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The deputy spotted a 1998 Pontiac leaving the driving and began pursuing the car.

The suspect led police on a high speed chase down County Road 24, onto I-94 and into St. Cloud. The deputy called off the chase as the car entered St. Cloud due to high traffic volumes.

Police were called to a home near County Road 75 and 33rd Street South a short time later after the driver had driven off the road and into a backyard.

The driver fled on foot. Police used a police dog to track the suspect, but lost the scent because of the heavy rain.

A suspect has been identified, but not yet located.
