State Fair Employers Have Plenty Of Takers

ST. PAUL  (AP) - Minnesota State Fair employers say they're seeing the effects of a tough economy. Job applications far exceed the number of employment opportunities.

Fair spokeswoman Brienna Schuette says about 2,700 people are hired for the 12-day event and thousands more have applied. She says people who have been laid off and retirees are hoping for temporary work.

This year's fair runs from Aug. 25 to Sept. 5. Job applicants must be at least 16 years old and be available to work every day of the fair. Job seekers can begin with registration online. To activate the registration, they must visit the fair's employment center.
