ST. PAUL (AP) - A St. Paul woman is charged with one count of animal cruelty for allegedly leaving two puppies in a trash bin in May.

Ramsey County prosecutors say one puppy was found dead. The other is recovering.

Prosecutors say 47-year-old Anna Robole turned herself in last month because the case got too much attention on Facebook. She was charged Tuesday. It wasn't clear if she had an attorney.

The complaint says Robole claimed both puppies were alive when she dumped them. She allegedly admitted she shouldn't have done it, but said she was having financial trouble and hoped they'd be found.

The complaint says both puppies were malnourished, and the deceased dog had healing rib fractures. Witnesses told investigators they saw Robole kick and abuse the puppies. She denied abusing them.
