Anyone in the St. Cloud area looking to hit the links sooner rather than later can head to the St. Cloud Veteran's Public Golf Course this week for their 'soft opening.'

For just $10 golfers will be able to golf to their heart's content, while members will just have to pay a .50 sign-in fee. The money will be collected on-course as the clubhouse is not ready to open for the season yet.

No carts will be available and tee times are not required at this point in the season. The course will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The Municipal Athletic Complex's Facebook page notes that the course will only be open in March when the forecasted temperature is expected to exceed 50 degrees.

For the week of March 11th, the course will be open on Monday from 12-5 p.m., on Tuesday from 12-6 p.m. and on Wednesday from 12-6 p.m.. The MAC says that Thursday through Sunday times are 'to be determined,' with a note that the forecast does not look promising for the course to open.

The St. Cloud VA Medical Center and the MAC made a deal in 1990 that saw the MAC take over full time operation of the golf course. In 1997, the City of St. Cloud made an arrangement with the Medical Center for a 35-year lease of the property, which allowed the city to renovate the course to its current 'executive par 30' layout.
