ST. CLOUD -- St. Cloud Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has -- for the first time -- successfully cooled an infant to prevent or reduce the severity of brain injury.

Earlier this month, the NICU team used the total body cooling therapy on a newborn that was deprived of oxygen during birth.

Oliver Manlove, the son of Renee and Kenny Manlove of Hubbard, was delivered full term and transferred by helicopter to St. Cloud Hospital for cooling.

Therapeutic hypothermia for adult cardiac arrest victims has been used at St. Cloud Hospital since 2005.
