ST. CLOUD -- It sounds like something out of a science fiction movie, but it's real, it's here, and St.Cloud is the first city in the world to use the technology.

The city signed a contract with St. Cloud-based LVX System yesterday (Thursday) to transmit data through L-E-D lights. In very basic terms, you'll be able to access your internet simply by standing under one of these lights.

John Pederson is the head of the company and the creator of the technology. He says there are many other ways the technology will be able to be used as well.

The company is expected to employ about 400 people in St. Cloud within the next year, and possibly thousands of people across the country.

A few test lights will be installed in City Hall, the Police Department, one fire station, the Wastewater Treatment Facility, and the Civic Center by the end of the year. St. Cloud has signed a one-year contract for $10,000. The money is from the E-D-A.

Pederson is an Apollo graduate, the school has been used as a test project for the company for the past few years.

Pederson also invented the technology used for those thin police lights you see on virtually every cop car in the country. That technology was developed right here in St. Cloud.
