This week with the NFL “Legal Tampering” some fan bases have been turned on their ears. (could we not call this something else- Tampering is not legal, or it wouldn’t be tampering- right?)

Not just because someone who they cheered for this past season, will now be playing for another team. BUT, and it’s a big BUT, in some cases, it’s not just that a player will be playing for another team, BUT they’ll be playing for their favorite team’s archrival.

Minnesota Vikings fans got a bit of a shot in the arm when it was announced yesterday that now former Green Bay Packer Aaron Jones will be toting the ball to the chants of SKOL next season!

Some Vikings fans are happy because they got someone who contributed to a lot of the success that the Packers have had in recent years. Other Vikings fans don’t want anything to do with a player who used to wear the Green and Gold, because it’s the Green and Gold.

I was surprised to see this move I guess because I’m a bit old school and draw those “lines in the sand”, if a player used to play for the team I dislike greatly, how can I cheer for them now?

That wasn’t the only move this week where a player crossed enemy lines within the same division in the NFL.

The Philadelphia Eagles picked up Saquon Barkley from fellow NFC East Member, the New York Giants. Patrick Queen is heading to Pittsburgh from Baltimore and then Geno Stone also leaves Baltimore heading to Cincinnati.

It’s a different time to be an NFL team fan, some of us aren’t used to these types of things happening. Is this the wave of the future? We as fans look at things a little differently from the players. For fans, in some cases cheering for a certain team is a way of life and is part of our family.

For players, it’s a business for them, a way to provide for their families, so I guess players don’t really have the hate for other teams that fans do. For some people that will be disappointing, but it’s hard to put hate on an organization that is willing to add a bunch of zeros at the end of your paycheck.

I guess “dead presidents” really do win in the end.
