SAUK RAPIDS - The Sauk Rapids city council has voted to buy some land for a possible 2nd municipal liquor store.

The council unanimously approved the land purchase along Golden Spike Road, near the new SuperAmerica store.

They'll pay the developer $375,000 for the three-quarters of an acre.  The money is coming from the city's liquor fund.

The city doesn't plan to build on the lot any time soon, but instead will wait to see if other development happens in that area.  The city put $120,000 of the sale in an escrow account, which will only be accessible to the developer if they develop another lot in the sub-division.

The city of Sauk Rapids has been wanting to build a second liquor store for several years now.
