SARTELL - Enrollment in the Sartell-St. Stephen school district continues to go up. There are 75 more students enrolled in the district this fall, compared to the end of last school year.

The district has 3,901 kids.

All of the growth is happening in the higher grades, the high school has 47 more students and the middle school is up by 75.

Meanwhile, both elementary schools are down, Oak Ridge has 24 fewer kids and Pine Meadow is down by 22 students.

Superintendent Jeff Schwiebert says it's because the two largest classes in the 5th and 6th grades are moving into the middle school.

Our two biggest classes in the district are right around 350. Behind that our classes are slightly smaller, which we have been preparing for for quite some time.  We actually thought our enrollment would drop ore substantially when these classes went through, but we also had a pretty good sized kindergarten class come through this year.

Schwiebert says enrollment projections are for the district to be over 4,000 students by 2019, which the new high school is scheduled to open.
