ST. CLOUD -- A Sartell man has been sentenced to four years in prison stemming from a May 2010 car crash that killed his fiance' and hurt another passenger.

30-year-old Joshua Laine had pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular homicide and asked a Stearns County judge for probation. Judge Kris Davick-Halfen denied the request and sentenced Laine to prison.

According to the criminal complaint, Laine was driving a Pontiac Firebird when he crashed into a light pole at the intersection of 9th Avenue North and Northway Drive. One of Laine's passengers, 28-year-old Kolleen Kill was ejected from the car and died. Laine and another passenger had to be pried from the wreckage.

Witnesses described hearing the car's engine rev to a high rate of speed before hearing the tires squeal and the crash occur.

Laine's preliminary blood-alcohol level was .20, or more than twice the legal limit.
