Russell L. Starr, 77 year old resident of rural Hillman passed away September 3, 2014 at the Heritage of Foley Nursing Center in Foley, MN. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 13th at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Hillman with Pastor Jean Megorden officiating. Burial will be in Lone Pine Cemetery near Morrill. Visitation is Friday evening, September 12th from 4 to 8 pm at the Foley Funeral Home and one hour prior to the church service.

Russ was born May 26, 1937 in Lakin Township, Morrison County to the late Otto and Minnie (Keehr) Starr. He lived on the home farm all his life. On June 30, 1956 he married his childhood sweetheart, Eleanor Christensen, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He enjoyed their many travels from the mountains of Alaska and Montana to the Gulf of Mexico. He excelled in swapping stories with new acquaintances, friends and extended family. He loved to fish, hunt, and camp with his family. In addition to farming he drove truck hauling milk cans and working road construction. In 1984 he began purchasing Red Angus cattle from Montana and with his son continued the business for 30 years. His greatest joy was his family, especially the grandchildren and the little “greats.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Murl and Wayne, and grandson Cody Sullivan. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Eleanor; six children: Cindy Starr (Pete Meulemans) River Falls, WI; Sandy Northburg (Jim Taylor) Crosby; Laurie Pry (Craig) Hillman; Randy Starr, Hillman; Nancy Burggraff (Tom) Pierz; Carol Starr (Danny Hoheisel) Hillman. Grandchildren: Stacy Starr, Clint Sullivan, Gina Odle, Jessica Lucking, Alex Hebler, Emily and Michael Burggraff; Nine great grandchildren, one great, great granddaughter and brother Dale (Rosemarie) Starr of Hillman; many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
