BROOKLYN PARK (AP) — Authorities believe alcohol played a role in the death of a motorcyclist from Maple Grove.

The MinnesotaState Patrol says 54-year-old Robert Zirbes was likely intoxicated and was not wearing a helmet when he ran a red light early Saturday and broadsided a car in Brooklyn Park.

The 17-year-old driver of the Nissan Altima was not injured.

Zirbes was taken to North Memorial Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

The state patrol is investigating.
