Plane Makes Emergency Landing After Cabin Fills With Smoke

MANKATO (AP) - A two-engine airplane filled with smoke was forced to make an emergency landing in Mankato.

Police and firefighters were called to the Mankato Regional Airport just after 1 p.m. Friday. The Cessna 414 was flying from Worthington to the Twin Cities when the cockpit filled with smoke, forcing the plane to land in Mankato.

A news release on Mankato's website says the hatch was opened to clear smoke so the pilot could land the plane safely. Firefighters made sure the fire was out once the plane landed. An electrical malfunction caused the fire.

An ambulance crew treated the pilot and passenger at the scene for smoke inhalation. No other injuries are reported.
