Various venues offer the opportunity for local talent to show their stuff during Open Mic Nights. On Wednesday nights you can find bands like Rio Savoy at Liquid Assets in Sartell.

You could say as an artist and working the open mic night it compliments their daytime jobs. Rio works at a Neurology Clinic, Rainbow ( Melissa) works at a jewelers and Radar works at a music store.

Rainbow (Melissa) says she's been playing piano since the age seven and has her own definition of open mic night:

Radar and Melissa both agree that Rio is the star, after all she does write the songs they perform and as far as their goals  Rio says they have an album they are working on:

Jesse Erickson heads up his band and also took over open mic night at Liquid Assets in Sartell back in October 2011. Here's Jesse to introduce the band and their role:

Jesse tells us what he found to be the most intriguing about open mic night."

Some take open mic night pretty serious, Jesse says they practice quite a bit. He talks about his background and where he finds a secluded place to rehearse:

Poetry reading and stand-up comics are welcome to show off their stuff in front of the mic.

Open mic night is a very laid back and intimate atmosphere, but the bottom line is, it's fun and free.

Other locations that offer open mic night around the area are The Keller Bar at 10 p.m. on Thursday nights as well as  Bubba's Bar and Grill in Sauk Rapids at 9 p.m. Thursdays.  The Local Blend in St. Joseph at 7 p.m. Tuesdays and on Wednesdays The Liquid Assets in Sartell at 7 p.m.
