BIG LAKE -- The organization which runs the Northstar Commuter Rail Line is offering an on-time guarantee in an effort to get disgruntled riders back.

Metro Transit is offering a refund on weekday trips if the train is 11 or more minutes late. The refund offer is good for riders who use fare cards during the month of January. Riders also must register on the Metro transit website to be eligible. Cash fares won't be given refunds during this promotion.

Northstar ridership has declined significantly in 2014 and Metro Transit officials say several things factored into delays, like track maintenance and competition from other trains for track space.

Officials say reliability is what the Northstar brand is about and they're out to show customers that Northstar trains will return to their on-time record which has been as high as 97% in the past.
