Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Mayhew Lake for Norbert John Thene, age 90, who passed away peacefully on Sunday at Country Manor Nursing Home in Sartell. The Rev. Tom Becker will officiate and burial will be at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Thursday at the church in Mayhew Lake. Knights of Columbus Bishop Marty Council will pray at 6:30 p.m., followed by parish prayers at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Sauk Rapids.

Norbert was born February 11, 1925 to John and Ida (Lubbesmeier) Thene. On June 1, 1950 he and Lorraine Schreder were united in marriage and together raised five children while farming in Mayhew Lake. He served as a supervisor of the Mayhew Lake Town Board for many years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Marty Council. Ice hockey skating was a hobby in his younger years. Other interests included watching baseball, football, all-star wrestling, playing cards and bingo. He especially enjoyed spending time in conversation with friends and family. Norbert was a kind and gentle man to all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lorraine; children, Karen (Gary) Boughton of Dent, Janet (Melvin) Tadych of St. Cloud, David (Kathleen) Thene of Rice, Duane (Sandy) Thene of Sauk Rapids, Joyce (John) Katke of Foley; 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Gerard Watercott; sisters, Verda Namyst and Marjorie Popp; brothers-in-law, Alois Namyst, Wilfred Popp, Richard and James Schreder; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Schreder.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Country Manor Nursing Home and Champion Rehab Center for the excellent care that was given to Norbert.
