NHL Lockout Leaves Fans, Businesses Frustrated

ST. CLOUD — There’s no end in sight to a lockout that is preventing you from seeing the Minnesota Wild’s two newest star players, Zach Parise and Ryan Suter. The current collective bargaining agreement expired Saturday, locking out the players from team facilities until a new work agreement can be reached.

Wild fan Cody Kloss bought a 10-game ticket package for the first time. He says they can get a refund, but he bought the tickets to see the team play.  When he learned of the lockout, Kloss says he just hopes the two sides can come to an agreement soon so he can go to the games.

Ultimate Sports Bar owner Tom Frericks pays for the NHL’s Center Ice package so he can broadcast all of the games and appeal to the hockey fans in town. He says if the lockout lasts, it will definitely hurt his revenue. He also says they schedule a number of fan buses to Wild games each year and that brings fans into his bar before and after games.

Townsquare Media has broadcast rights to the Wild. General Manager David Engberg says they’ve sold out their sponsorships earlier than ever and it boils down to…less games equals less revenue.
