ST. PAUL  (AP) -- A new Klondike Kate will be crowned as the St. Paul Winter Carnival's ambassador of fun and frivolity.

Seven contestants will compete Wednesday night at the Prom Center in Oakdale. Each contestant will perform up to three songs in three rounds of competition until Klondike Kate 2011 is chosen.

Klondike Kate contestants are known for their sashaying and singing. The Klondike Kates make over 100 appearances a year, including singing on their float in summer parades.

The 125th Winter Carnival takes place Jan. 27 through Feb. 6.
