MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – A new poll by the Star Tribune  shows Minnesotans are split on whether the state should amend its Constitution to define marriage as the union of a man and woman.

Voters will be faced with the ballot question next year. A poll of 807 adults across Minnesota shows 48 percent of respondents favor the amendment while 43 percent oppose it. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points and includes both land line and cell phone interviews.

Support or opposition to the amendment breaks down by partisan, geographical, generational and educational divides. The majority of
older voters, Republicans, those without a college education and those living outside the Twin Cities area support the amendment.

Younger voters, Democrats, college-educated and those living in the metropolitan area oppose the amendment.
