When we were younger, we thought we would have all the time in the world to do certain things that we had a propensity for putting off.

Then one day we wake up and we’re in our forties and we wonder where the time went that we thought we would be able to use for those things that kept getting put off.

I’m 52 now, and I look back and see things that did not get done that I wish now I would have taken care of. But I’ve sort of resided that I’m older now and some things will remain unchecked on my list.

That is until I see a story like this one that was featured on Fox 9 this week. 81-year-old Sam Flom completed everything he needed to get his GED.

Flom, like so many people in his age group when he was younger, dropped out of school to go to work. Sam Flom spent time working construction, working as a janitor and a gambling manager along with a stint in the Army.

Throughout his life, Sam had a major regret, and that was that he did not finish school. He started working to get his GED in 2021, and along the way was able to pass part of the subjects required, but not all.

It would’ve been easy for Sam to get discouraged and even give up, but that’s not how he’s built.

Last Friday, Sam Flom passed all the credits and has now checked the box beside the goal that was on the top of his list. Sam will graduate in May, but he has his sights on continuing to learn, as he wants to grow in his knowledge of computers. Plus, he has an interest in volunteering at the school.

This story should serve as an inspiration for all of us to not give up. It reminds me of a bible verse that I refer to frequently, Habakkuk 2, verses 2 and 3. And the Lord answered, Write the vision down and make it plain so that he who reads it may run. And though it may tarry, it will surely come.

Sam Folm had to wait; his dream eventually came true. Good for you Sam. Thank You for the reminder that we should never let go of our dreams.
