Minneapolis Man Gets Nearly 34 Years In Slaying

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A Minneapolis man has been sentenced to almost 34 years in prison for killing his girlfriend and dumping her body behind a building in St. Louis Park.

Walter Thompson III received the punishment Monday in the death of 46-year-old Nerissa Shaw. Her body was found last September in a wooded area behind the building.

Thompson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in November.

Police say Shaw's body was wrapped in a sheet and had injuries consistent with a severe beating.

Thompson was convicted of gross misdemeanor domestic assault in 2012.
