MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Lynx Center Janel McCarville has told the team she will not play for them in the upcoming season.

The decision comes around three weeks before the team opens for the season which begins on June 5th.

Reasons behind her decision are not clear at this time.

McCarville was a star at the University of Minnesota and returned to play for the Lynx in 2013, where she helped them win the WNBA Championship.

Last year she averaged 7.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists in helping the Lynx to the Western Conference finals.

The Lynx wasted no time filling the empty roster spot. They acquired 11-year veteran Asjha Jones from the Connecticut Sun in exchange for the team's 2016 second-round draft pick.

Jones has missed the last two seasons with injuries.
