Mary was born on January 15, 1948 to Aloysius and Dolores (Nolen) Hommerding in St. Cloud. Born with a brain injury, she lived with her family at home and later moved to Mother Teresa Group Home. Mary conquered her physical limitations and met all of life’s challenges. Although non-verbal, she always voiced her opinion and had a great sense of humor. She greeted you enthusiastically with a shriek and a hug. As an adult, Mary worked with Wacosa Employment Services and after retirement, spent her days at Whitney Center.

Survivors include her siblings, Julie (Tom) Soderberg of Embarrass, Kitty Zak of Rochester, Joe (Joanne) Hommerding, Anita Russell, Jim Hommerding, Dan (Linda) Hommerding of St. Cloud, Paul (Diane) Hommerding of Alexandria and Sue Hommerding (Brian Laing) of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Tom and infant siblings; Charles, Mary Catherine, and Therese Marie; brothers-in-law, Larry Russell and Dick Zak; sister-in-law, Karen Hommerding.

The family would like to thank Mary’s other families at Mother Teresa Group Home, Wacosa and Whitney Center. These folks are incredibly loving and caring individuals and we are indebted to them for the special care they provided to Mary.

Memorials are preferred to Mother Teresa Home in Cold Spring, Minnesota. Special thanks to Mary’s long-time nurse, Marjorie Spaeth and Carrie Peterson of Whitney Center for their compassion and caring.
