Man Pleads Guilty in Blue Earth Hammer Attack
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A jealous husband accused of using a hammer to kill another man who was with his wife has pleaded guilty to murder.
Thirty-year-old Brian Daniel Freeman pleaded guilty Monday to one count of second-degree intentional murder and three counts of first-degree assault.
According to the complaint, Freeman wore a mask when he entered a Blue Earth home on Feb. 20, 2012, and used a hammer to kill 37-year-old Christopher Fulmer. Freeman's wife, Candice Freeman, and her two teenage daughters were also hit with the hammer and suffered severe injuries, including skull fractures.
Faribault County Chief Public Defender Scott Cutcher says Freeman faces 33 years in prison when sentenced March 11.
Cutcher says had the case gone to trial, he would have argued the attack happened in the "heat of passion."
