Man Dead After Shooting Outside Maplewood Nightclub

MAPLEWOOD (AP) - A 20-year-old man is dead after a shooting in a nightclub parking lot in Maplewood.

A security guard tried to break up a fight between people who had been kicked out of the Stargate club at about 1:30 a.m. Friday.

Maplewood police say the group surrounded the security guard. He got away but the group pursued him.

Police say the 20-year-old and others pushed the guard to the ground and assaulted him. That's when the security guard shot the 20-year-old, who lived in St. Paul.

The man died at the hospital. The security guard had minor injuries.

Security guards for the club are hired by a private company and there are several security cameras in the parking lot.
