SAUK RAPIDS - Crime and violence can happen anywhere these days - schools, movie theaters, the mall, even at church.

The St. Cloud area law enforcement agencies have joined forces on a one-day seminar called "Safety and Security For Places Of Worship".  The Stearns County Chiefs Of Police Association, along with the police departments in Waite Park, Sauk Rapids, St. Joseph, St. Cloud, Sartell and the Stearns County Sheriff's Department are hosting the event.

Spokewoman Alicia Mages says they'll cover a wide range of topics, not just active shooter situations.

Mages says everyone from church leaders, to ushers, to youth workers are invited to attend.

Mages says we haven't had a major crime event at any of our churches yet, but they wanted to be proactive.

The main presenter is Tina Lewis Rowe, a retired Captain from the Denver Police Department and the U.S. Marshalls office.

The Worship Without Worry event is from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27th at the Discovery Church in Sauk Rapids.  The cost is $20 and pre-registration is required by going to the Waite Park city website.
