ST. CLOUD -- Members of the St. Cloud Fire Department will be walking around the intersection of 33rd Avenue and Division Street the next few days for their annual "Fill the Boot" campaign.

The fundraiser is in connection with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to benefit children and adults affected by muscle disease.

MDA Area Director Sue Wiger says the fundraiser is a state wide event.

"We have a 60 year partnership with fire fighters across the country and during that time period they have raised over $500-million-dollars for muscle disease," says Wiger.

Fire Fighter Ben Anderson says the fundraiser helps many local families.

"The money we raise helps send kids throughout Minnesota to summer camp that they wouldn't get to do without donations," says Anderson.

The Fill the Boot drive will be going on today (Wednesday), Thursday and Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

"This is the one organization we all try to participate in and if everyone joins in it's a huge effort," says Anderson.

Wiger says that as you drive on Division Street and see our local fire department holding out a boot know every little bit helps.

To date the campaign has raised about $530-million-dollars.
