WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senator Amy Klobuchar is set to lead a committee that focuses on Senate Democrats' outreach to businesses, community leaders and policy experts.

Klobuchar on Thursday was named chairman of the U.S. Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee.

The committee seeks to build ties between Senate Democrats and outside leaders and organizations.

Klobuchar says she wants to use the post to help write policy that improves the economy and takes advantage of the expertise of non-senators.

The committee is one of the Senate Democrats' leadership committees.
