ST. CLOUD (AP) - A judge has ordered another mental competency examination for a man accused of killing his mother in St. Cloud in 2013.

A Stearns County judge ordered Tuesday the exam for 54-year-old Dean Friese. The judge also set a trial date for May.

Previous court-ordered competency exams have had different results in terms of whether Friese is competent to stand trial. He's accused of stabbing 72-year-old Lois Arlene Omeara at a St. Cloud apartment complex in September 2013.

The judge recently denied a motion to dismiss a first-degree murder indictment against Friese, and also denied motions to suppress certain evidence gathered in the investigation of Omeara's death.
