Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 22, 2016 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Sartell for John M. Schrader, age 82, who passed away Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Sauk Rapids. Burial will be private at a later date. Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Friday at the church in Sartell.

John was born June 4, 1933 in Roca, NE to Waldo & Dorothy (Robbins) Schrader. He served his country in the U.S. Army, serving in the 4th Infantry. He worked as a telephone lineman and while serving in Germany, he was the Commanding Officer’s driver. John married Virginia Kilness on June 25, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. He worked in quality control for Honeywell for 33 years. In 1971 John relocated to Clear Lake where he raised laying hens and farmed. He also drove school bus for Becker Schools, and worked at Franklin and T.O. Plastics. John was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and a lifetime member of St. Cloud East Side VFW Post 4847. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, birds, jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku, traveling, camping and his coffee club. John was a kind and caring person. He volunteered at St. Francis Xavier School every Thursday.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Virginia “Ginny” of Becker; children, Steve (Marsha) of Annandale, Tami (Gary) Toenjes of Annandale, Shari (Chuck) Ahrens of Centerville, and Brian of St. Cloud; daughter-in-law, Wendy (Keith) Goenner of Clear Lake; sister and brother, Dora Thorson of Prior Lake and Don Schrader of Eagan; eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Patricia; infant son, Paul; son, Mark in 1986; great grandson, Xaine in 2012; brother-in-law, Jerry Thorson; and sister-in-law, Karen Schrader.
