John J. Bastys, 84, Princeton

June 21, 1932 - November 25, 2016

Memorial services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Princeton, MN on Wednesday November 30, 2016 at 11 AM with full military honors for John J. Bastys who passed away on Friday November 25th at his home surrounded by his loving family. Family and friends may call at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Princeton on Tuesday, November 29th from 4-7 PM and also one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. A prayer service will be held at 6:00 on Tuesday evening. Inurnment will be at a later date.

John was born in Minneapolis, MN to the late Emil and Grace (Whipper) Bastys on June 21, 1932. John enlisted in the US Marine Corp at age 17 in February 1950 where he was a Radio Operator during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in February 1954. He married Arlis Steeves in Minneapolis, MN on June 5, 1954. John enjoyed hunting, fishing playing horseshoes, playing cards and even tried his hand at farming for a short period of time. John was a member of Zuhrah Temple of the Shriners and the American Legion

John is survived by his wife Arlis, daughters, Vicki Neal of Princeton; Colleen Bastys of Zimmerman, Linda Englund of Princeton and Jacqueline Demars (Chris Swallers) of Milaca. He is also survived by his brother James Bastys of Naples, FL as well as 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Sharon Kaatz; Diane Allen and brother Thomas “Tucker” Bastys.
