UNDATED -- The dates for removing fish houses on Minnesota lakes is fast approaching and the DNR is asking anglers to consider removing them early.

Shelters located south of a line extending from Moorhead to Walker to Duluth must be removed by the end of the day Monday, March 7th. Shelters north of that line must be removed by the end of the day Monday, March 21st.

The DNR says with warmer temperatures approaching, anglers should consider removing the fish houses early. You're asked to also remove your trash from your site when you leave.

If fish houses are left on the ice past the removal dates, the structures may be confiscated or destroyed and the owners will be fined.

After the removal dates, shelters can be placed on the ice between midnight and one hour before sunrise but only if they are occupied.

It's also illegal to store your fish house at a public access.
