ST. CLOUD -- The sixth annual Power in Diversity Leadership Conference is going on at St. Cloud State this weekend.

Hundreds of students from all over the upper Midwest - and a few from as far as Massachusetts - are on SCSU's campus to build leadership skills at the conference.

Angie Witte, Program Coordinator of SCSU's Multicultural Student Services, helps to put on the event.  Witte says St. Cloud State works as a location for the conference in a logistical sense and support from the university.

The leadership conference coincides with the largest diversity job fair in the state of Minnesota. Witte says the event takes several months of preparation, but the planning pays off.

Dr. Freddie Walker is the Associate Director of SCSU's Multicultural Student Services and has been involved with the event for the past three years.  Walker says the conference has evolved in its six years.

Walker says the weekend-long event has a lot of positives, but his favorite part comes at the end when the students in attendance provide feedback for the conference.

The conference features six guest speakers, several workshops, luncheons, and other activities over the course of its three days and its theme is "Remembering the '60s While Charting the Future" - honoring 50 years since the Civil Rights Movement.
