ST. PAUL (AP) — Republican lawmakers in the Minnesota House have failed to gain enough votes from Democrats to pass a measure borrowing $800 million for public works projects.

The failure Thursday afternoon of the House bonding bill is just another sign of the broad divide between Democrats and Republicans. Earlier this session Senate Democrats fell short of the required three-fifths majority of votes needed to pass their own bonding bill.

It's one of several key areas lawmakers have yet to strike a deal on.

House Republicans earlier this week unveiled the details of their $800 million wish list. Senate Democrats had pushed to pass a $1.5 billion bill.

A bipartisan committee made up of members from both chambers can still iron out a compromise bill this year.
