ALBERTVILLE, Minn. (AP) - An Albertville man tells authorities he shot a black bear that came into his yard because he feared for his daughter's safety.

The Wright County sheriff's office says one homeowner reported seeing the bear come up to his sliding glass door about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.

A responding deputy heard a single gunshot and saw a bear run into some woods, where it died. Another homeowner a few blocks away told authorities the bear had come up to his house while his daughter was playing in the backyard, so he got a hunting rifle and shot it.

The sheriff's office and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources have closed their investigations, saying no additional actions are warranted.

Albertville is on the northwest edge of the Twin Cities metropolitan area.
