DELANO -- This weeks Home Town Spotlight series takes us to Delano, where we're in for a "clucking" good time.

Bill Hanson is the owner of the giant chicken which stands outside of Flippin Bill's BP gas station. He says the chicken was his brother's idea about 30 years ago.

"They did a road trip and as they were heading back they stopped for lunch and saw all these large animals across the road. So they bought the chicken, brought it here and it's been here ever since," says Hanson.

From then on, Hanson says their poultry mascot has been a town icon, appearing in several parades and media outlets.

"It's been in the paper a few times, we've had it in the 4th of July parade. But during the summer everyday there is someone out there getting their picture taken," says Hanson.

The chicken even gained national spotlight when a few seconds on the Ellen Show a few years ago.

"The Road to the Superbowl back five or six years ago. They were here filming for about a half hour, so that was fun," says Hanson.

Hanson says the chicken is considered family and he expects him to continue to greet drivers for many years to come.
