RICHMOND -- This week in our Hometown Spotlight series we highlight a long time family owned business in Richmond.

Brinky's Liquor has been serving the community for the last six decades. Owner Gary Brinkman says the business was started by his father in 1957.

"The area around here was a grazing area for animals. When he bought it the shed the old store was actually had horses in it," says Brinkman.

Besides a liquor store the business served as a cafe, gas station, and tire shop in the early years.

"The whole establishment was a gas station, cafe, and a liquor store all in one. Plus a little tire shop on the side," says Brinkman.

It's popularity resulted in several expansions and a big decision to house the liquor store in it's own building.

"Through the years it just kept expanding, and as the brands grew the store got too small. Dad wanted the cafe bigger so we had to kick out the liquor store and here we are today," says Brinkman.

Now in it's 60th year in business, Brinky's Liquor has turned a new chapter. The old store which stood for over 30 years has been demolished and a new building stands in it's place.

"It's been a dream come true for me. It was hard to see the old building go, the last of my parents legacy, but it's been a blessing," says Brinkman.

Brinkman says he owes his success to his many patrons and family for their unending support.
