Hastings Man Charged in Death of 10-Year-Old

AITKIN -- A criminal complaint charging a Minnesota man in the hit-and-run death of a 10-year-old girl says investigators matched tire tracks on the victim's body to the boat trailer the defendant was towing at the time of the crash.

Forty-four-year-old Steven Meier, of Hastings, was charged Wednesday with criminal vehicular homicide in the June 10 death of Caylin Donovan, of Lake Park.

The court document also says DNA taken from the trailer matches the victim. She was struck along Highway 18 near Lake Mille Lacs. A woman who lives with Meier was also arrested, but has not been charged in the case.

Meier is expected in Aitkin County District Court later Wednesday. It was not immediately clear if he had retained an attorney.
