ST. CLOUD -- The St. Cloud gymnastics community has started a petition to force the St. Cloud School District's school board to come up with a specific plan for the program's future in the new Tech High School.

Started last Saturday, the petition has over 300 signatures, with a goal of 500. One of the district's most successful programs, the Tech High Gymnastics team has gone to state 11 years in a row. The team starts regional's next week.

Karen Mastin is the mother of a Freshman in the high school program, she says the entire gymnastics community needs the space, to continue their success.

"How it works is the Community Ed and Junior Tigers programs act as feeder programs for the high school program."

Last week, dozens of students, parents and alumni attended the district board meeting to voice their concerns in person.

In a statement released to WJON regarding the petition, Superintendent Willie Jett says,

"We appreciate the passion and support for the program, especially from the young ladies. We are looking for a way to resolve the concerns so that the program and the students continue to thrive."

The program has over 600 girls in it, with ages ranging from five to 18.  Alumni help coach the community ed and Junior Tigers program in the summer.
