GRAND RAPIDS (AP) - A northern Minnesota man is now charged with murder after one of the victims of a double shooting in Grand Rapids died.

Itasca (eye-TAS'-kuh) County Attorney John Muhar on Monday amended the complaint against 26-year-old William Levi Payne of Bovey (BOH'-vee) to add one count of second-degree murder.

Payne remains charged with first-degree attempted murder, as well as kidnapping, terroristic threats, burglary, assault and violating an order for protection.

Payne is charged in connection with the Dec. 22 shooting of 59-year-old Rosemary Oberg-Johnson and her son, Paul Russell Johnson.

Oberg-Johnson died last week. Paul Johnson remains in critical condition at a hospital in Duluth.

At the request of defense attorneys, the court on Monday ordered an evaluation to determine whether Payne was legally insane at the time of the shootings.
