Governor Dayton Says He Paid $89K In Taxes In 2012

Dayton released his tax returns on Tuesday, following his routine of doing so since he was a candidate in 2010.

Overall Dayton earned $343,000 last year. More of his money came from dividends and capital gains than from his gubernatorial salary of $120,000. His taxable income after deductions came to about $299,000.

His return showed him giving $1,000 to charity.

Minnesota law doesn't require the release tax information by officials, but some have done so voluntarily.

State Sen. Dave Thompson, who is among several GOP candidates for governor, also released his forms on Tuesday. They showed a family income of $198,322, a total tax bill of about $40,000 and $20,000 in charitable giving.
