FOLEY - Employees for local governments could have to be laid-off, if the state government shutdown drags on for months.

Benton County Administrator Monty Headley says employees who rely on state services to do their jobs might not be able to do their work.  He says they can assign them other duties in the short term, but not indefinitely.

Headley says the county could then be forced to make severance payouts to those employees, and when they did return to work they would have no vacation or sick leave time left.
