ST. CLOUD -- Registration has opened for the 8th annual Minnesota Fishing Challenge, a one-day fishing tournament with proceeds helping adults and teens kick drug and alcohol addiction.

The May 30th fishing tournament allows anglers to fish for Pike, Panfish, Bass, and Walleye on Gull Lake near Brainerd.

Fisherman Jim Kalkafan, in an interview last week with Jerry Carlson on WJON, says he got involved with the event at the beginning.

Kalkafan says the event is great for fundraising as well as being a fun time for all who attend.

100 percent of the profits go to Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge, a faith-based drug and alcohol rehabilitation center that helps over 600 Minnesotans kick their addiction.

After initially getting involved with the event for the fishing, Kalkafan says he found the experience rewarding and now works part time with Minnesota Teen Challenge.

Registration is open until April 10th. For more information, visit their website or call 320-833-8777.
